MASS LOADED SOUND BARRIER

Mass loaded vinyl barrier is used to block the transmission of noise from one space to another.   The mass loaded barrier is loaded with a heavy mineral material called Barium sulfate.  This gives the vinyl material the necessary mass or density to block the noise. Mass Loaded Vinyl is simply installed on an existing wall or on a newly built structure.  By installing the mass loaded barrier in conjunction with drywall and wall insulation, most loud noises can be reduced by as much as 85% - 90%.

The mass loaded soundproofing material is available in two different weights.  The 1 pound barrier is 1/8" thick and weighs 1 lb per square foot.  The 2 pound barrier is 1/4" thick and weighs 2 lbs per square foot.  Mass Loaded rolls are available 4 1/2 ft wide in 10ft and 20ft lengths.  For industrial applications the barrier can be supplied in 60 ft roll  The 2lb mass loaded barrier is the most effective in wall assemblies, floors, ceilings and doors.  The material creates a physical "sound barrier" between the source of the sound and the space trying to be isolated. 

An example of the type of sound reduction to be expected by using the mass loaded barrier is a treatment center for people with emotional and physiological issues.  Privacy is a major concern in this institution.  With the use of our mass loaded soundproofing barrier, the doctors were able to soundproof walls in between patient rooms to completely eliminate all conversations from being transmitted through the wall.  This client used a 2 LB barrier for this application which normally boasts a 90% reduction in airborne noise.
